This dentistry web design project was something brand new for us. It wasn’t new because it was a dentistry web design, we’ve done plenty of those before. Also, the content management system wasn’t new, we’ve done plenty of those before. It also wasn’t new because it was an e-commerce web design, we’ve done plenty of those before. What made this project new was that we never had a dentist that wanted an e-commerce web design. We set up the e-commerce part of the website to allow coupon codes. Our client can create any number of coupon codes. The coupon codes can be just for one seminar or for whatever they sign up for. They can also be set as a percentage discount or a fixed price discount. Another option is what we might call the friends and strangers discount. It works like this, friends of the dentist might get coupon code 123 which is worth $500 off. Since everyone wants to feel that they got a discount he can run ads offering a coupon code xyz which is worth $100 off. You can have multiple coupon codes that apply to one item. This is useful for tracking which ads work. For instance, maybe you want to give everyone $100 off and you are running ads in three different places. If the ads were on TV we might make three $100 coupon codes and name them NBC, CBS and ABC. Then we wait and see which coupon codes get used. As a result, we can decide where to invest our advertising dollars more effectively.
